This Week’s Cartoon: “The Mental Stimulus Plan”

A few Obama supporters on Daily Kos took umbrage at this one. Personally, I think it’s a pretty mild warning about the dangers of not having a jobs plan. So what if it’s not politically feasible right now? He could at least try to make the case, instead of gratuitously invoking Republican falsehoods about the economy (see Krugman’s posts on this tendency here and here). It’s time to play offense at least rhetorically, Republican obstructionism be damned.

No comments yet? A few weeks ago you had a comment needling Republican candidates possible attempts to market themselves with Newt Loops and Big Mitt Chew, and a correspondent calling himself “True Patriot” took great umbrage at that. Now, here you are leveling the playing field as it were, and no “Thank you!” notes from the critics. You just can’t win!

I guess it’s like the people who bitterly complain about how “liberal” the long-established comic strip “Doonesbury” is, but who take no notice that Gary Trudeau has also effectively needled Jane Fonda, Mao Tse-Tung, Gary Hart, Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, and Jerry Brown.

It’s a good comic! My only thing is that the third panel is a little unbelievable, since sleeping under a newspaper in a filthy alley would always be preferable to having to meet Bono. But I guess she is being hypnotized into thinking she had a job, not being hypnotized into thinking that she has a pleasant job.
