Pepper Spray Cop

pepper spray cop spraying JFK Jr.

Here’s my contribution to the Pepper Spray Cop meme. This is an illustration for the Dallas Observer — their concept, for a political column. Poor John John!

I really choose to think that I started my facial hair/goatee thing completely oblivious to social trends! Please, that’s just the way it grows!

Beyond that, funny strip, as usual.

Videos of the UC Davis campus on Friday, November 18, 2001, show unarmed students being casually pepper-sprayed in the face by police equipped with riot helmets, nightsticks and semiautomatic pistols. If that goateed pig, otherwise known as Lt. John Pike, had wanted to leave, which obviously he did not, all he had to do was step over a single row of demonstrators sitting on the ground with arms locked. So the next day UC Davis police chief Annette Spicuzza managed to provide some laughs: “There was no way out of that circle,” she said, “They were cutting the officers off from their support.” She was kidding . . . right?
