Out of Control



There’s been so much discussion lately about the possibility of AI killing off humanity (or maybe just a billion of us) in the relatively near future. Most people seem to agree that this would be a bad thing. Even some tech industry leaders are calling for government regulation to try to prevent an apocalyptic scenario. So we can see clearly in this case that when corporations are creating a dangerous product that might lead to massive harm, we need a regulatory body to step in to protect the public. Yet when it comes to other sociopathic actions by corporations that threaten life on earth as we know it, those concerns are typically considered secondary (or anathema) to the market.
